HUTCHINSON -- Geuda Springs 9-year-old Logan Butler successfully defended his state championship in the Pedal Tractor Pull contest Sunday at the Kansas State Fair, winning the age 9 division.
The win continues an undefeated streak dating back to the same event held last year.
The annual contest is held to determine the state winners in each age division from 4- to 12-year-old boys and girls. Local contests are held, usually at county or local fairs throughout the state. First- and second-place winners at each local event are eligible to compete at the state event.
Butler won three qualifying events in the local area, including contests at Wellington, Winfield and Wichita.
Logan now has the option of representing Kansas at the National Pedal Tractor Pulls on Sept. 27 at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. Butler won that contest last year against 28 other 8-year-old state champions.
At last year's event, Logan won with an initial "full-pull" of 50 feet and defeated the Nebraska State Champ by pulling more than 400 pounds 46 1/2 feet.
Butler likely will face some familiar opponents at the contest in late September. Logan claimed the International Champion title at Fairfield, Iowa, in July by out-pulling his top four rivals from the national competition again.
Logan is the son of Brett and Cathy Butler.
