From STAFF REPORTS
Logan Butler, of Geuda Springs, recently won the 8-year-old division of the National Pedal Puller Championship on Sept. 22 in Mitchell, S.D.
The event is scheduled by the NPPA (National Pedal Puller Association) and includes 18 states, sending qualifying participants who finished in the top-3 at their respective state qualifiers.
Butler started his journey by winning the local 8-year-old qualifier with a "full pull" at the South Haven fair in August. His younger brother, Josh, and older brother, Nathan, also won trophies.
Logan then competed at the state qualifier at the Kansas State Fair on Sept. 9 in Hutchinson. He won the contest with a distance of 27 feet, 1 inch out of a possible 30 feet.
At nationals, Butler easily advanced to the final after recording a "full pull" of 50 feet in the opening round. He and a competitor from Nebraska were the only ones to accomplish the feat in the first round.
Butler edged Hunter Miller (Nebraska) in the final by recording a pull of 46 feet to win the title. Miller recorded a pull of 45 feet.
Butler received a trophy, $100 savings bond and an invitation to the International Pedal Pullers' contest. Date and location have yet to be determined.
