McNulty will speak at Cowley

By RAMA PEROO
Cowley College

An educator since 1973, Dr. Ray McNulty will speak at Cowley College's All College In-Service on Oct. 12 from 8:30-11 a.m. in the Brown Theatre. McNulty, who is a senior consultant for the International Center for Leadership in Education and executive director of its Successful Practices Network, will speak about "Leadership Skills in Education for the 21st Century."

His message will be to promote awareness of how the impact of technology and globalization are creating rapid change in our world. He will also discuss what students need to know to be ready to go into a global workplace.

McNulty's appearance is being brought to the Cowley College campus thanks to a collaborative effort between Cowley College, Winfield USD 465, and Buhler USD 313.

"He will discuss what is happening in the world of work and education from a global standpoint," Cowley College Vice President of Academic Affairs Sheree Utash said. "He will also challenge us to look for ways for teachers to better prepare students to enter the workforce."

McNulty has been a teacher, vice principal, principal, and superintendent. From 2001-03, he served as Vermont's education commissioner. During his tenure, McNulty focused on aligning the Department of Education's work on three key issues: early education, educator quality, and secondary school reform.

The in-service will be held jointly with Winfield USD 465 middle and high school teachers and administrators.

A Business and County Leaders Luncheon will be held with McNulty from noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the college's Wright Room. McNulty will discuss how globalization affects the rural economy and how globalization involves business and county leaders.

Those interested in attending should contact Cowley College Director of Business and Industry Lisa Roberts at (620) 441-5581.

A night session titled "The Future is Here" will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Wright Room. Students and members of the community are invited to attend. McNulty will discuss the impact of technology and the rapid change of technology. A $100 gift card will be awarded to a Cowley student in attendance. The session will be beamed to Cowley's Southside Education Center.

A luncheon with educational leaders in the community will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 12 in Cowley's President's Dining Room. Those interested in attending should contact Cowley College vice president of academic affairs Sheree Utash at 620-441-5580.
