Craig reappointed to state fair board

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has reappointed Winfield resident Charles Craig to serve on the Kansas State Fair board.

Craig, who also has served for more than 30 years on the Cowley County Fair Board, has been a member of the state fair board for the past 14.

"In those 14 years on the state fair board, I've never missed a meeting," said Craig.

Serving on the two fair boards can be very time-consuming, but Craig said he probably devotes more time to the county fair. Serving on the state board can help the local fair, he said. Craig gets a lot of ideas from the state fair meetings and conferences and brings some of them back to use at the county fair.

"It's helped the county fair," he said.

Craig's term will last three years; then he will decide if he wants to put his name in for another term.

In addition to Craig, Jeff Deeds, Goodland, and Mike Gaskill, Liberal, were reappointed to three-year terms. The board oversees the state fair's schedule, budget, advertising and vendor contracts.

Sebelius stated in a press release how happy she is to have Craig and other board members willing to be a part of the board.

"It's not easy finding the right individuals to serve on the many commissions and boards in our state, so when we are successful, we certainly like to keep those folks," Sebelius said. "I appreciate the willingness to serve of these dedicated Kansans."
