Dexter sends two to state

DEXTER — For the first time in school history, the Dexter Cardinals are sending two competitors to the KSHSAA State Cross Country Championships.

Jolie Butler and Cody Drake, who compete on the Burden-Central High School cross country team because Dexter doesn’t field a program, both qualified for the Class 1A state meet, set for Saturday at Wamego Country Club.

Drake finished sixth overall at Saturday’s 1A regional meet in Wichita, completing the 5K course in 18 minutes, 51 seconds.

Butler, who missed a state-qualifying berth by one place last year, finished 13th in the girls regional, completing the 4K course in 18:27.
