An 87-year-old man who lives just south of Winfield is missing and the
Cowley County Sheriff's Department is seeking help locating him.
A neighbor of the man, Jack Lee Howe, reported him missing on Sunday
afternoon. He had last been seen about noon last Friday.
The sheriff's department contacted Howe's children, who live out of
state. They said they had not heard from him recently and did not know
his whereabouts.
Howe’s pickup also had been reported missing. On Saturday, it was
found parked and abandoned on a railroad right of way just south of the
Kansas-Oklahoma state line south of Caldwell, the sheriff's department
said.
The pickup was checked and impounded by the Grant County, Okla.,
Sheriff's Office, and the immediate area was searched by that agency,
but no one was found, the Cowley County Sheriff's Department said.
A more expansive search of the area has been initiated by the Grant
County Sheriff’s Office and Sumner County Sheriff’s Office.
Howe is described as 87 years old, 5'8" tall, approximately 100 lbs,
very thin build, gray hair, brown eyes, and usually wearing glasses.
He was last seen wearing very light colored blue jeans, a red long
sleeve shirt and light colored suspenders.
His pickup is described as a dark blue 1999 Ford Ranger extended cab
pickup with a light colored bed topper and bearing Kansas license
PJX-318.
It was noted that Howe recently has become forgetful and sometimes
confused and may be starting to suffer from dementia.
Anyone who may have seen Howe or his dark blue 1999 Ford Ranger pickup
at anytime after about noon on Friday is requested to call the Cowley
County Sheriff’s Office at 620-221-5444, or the Sumner County Sheriff’s
Office at 620-326-8941.
